Grandfather Mountain 2018

Now that I’m retired, I’m finding that I can finally catch up with some of our past adventures. In June of 2018 we found ourselves going to Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. This all day adventure was wonderful. In addition to the Mile High Swinging Bridge, hiking trails and Discovery Center there were several wildlife habitats to enjoy. We went past this guy several times. He was more than willing to pose for me as long as I didn’t bother him for gnawing on his branch. This is a bull elk. The habitat has had several residents, Doc, Merle and Watson. Unfortunately, Doc had to be relocated in 2022. From what I read, I must deduce that he was rather excitable during rutting season and maybe caused some damage to the habitat. Well, a bull will do what a bull will do!
